Say "Yes!" to life

Go with the flow of life. Stop resisting Life. This sounds good and but frequently isn't so easy.  Very often we don’t like what has happened, even just moments before.  But being angry or resentful  is like shaking your fist at the rain.  It IS.  It already IS.  You are not going to change the fact that it already exists.  In our smaller selves, we believe that if we resist, we can have our own way.  We can change what has happened.  We are mistaken. Sometimes, our "own way" is the way of the common good or even what we think of as God’s way or the “best” way or whatever.  But the truth is, what is, already is and could have been no other way.  If we could see how infinitely connected and intertwined everything is,  we could easily realize that our own perspective is so very limited and that pushing against life, our circumstances, doesn’t do anything helpful.  It is just like the child that smacks the table for being in the way.  You may say, it makes the child feel better.  Perhaps, but only as long as they are a child and think like a child.

Adults want to see some things happen.  They want their lives to unfold in a joyful, productive, enriching way.  They might not know this, but if they think about it long enough they do.  Go with the flow of life.  Say “Yes” to Life.  As it is right now, in this moment.  Acceptance is the necessary foundation to flowing with Life. It is necessary for peace of mind. It is necessary for joy.

Sometimes if what has transpired is very painful to us, we will have to forgive before we can accept. Whenever we are stuck rehearsing our dialogues, repeating our threats or justifications we can know that this kind of stuck requires forgiveness. We feel miserable not becasue of what happened as we think, but becasue we have moved away from the love that we really are.  We are splitting ourselves.  Forgiveness  is the bridge back to our peace of mind because it is the bridge back to  accepting life as it is, just now...at this moment. Forgiving ourselves, others, the situation, God, the weather...any and all of it....it is the bridge back home, to love. We can be positive and full of love as we set our intention for what is about to unfold.  That, too becomes part of what IS and couldn't have unfolded any other way.  When we are friendly with life, life is friendly back.

Think of the child seeing himself in the mirror and not liking what he sees and so he makes a terrible face. What does the face do that looks back at him?  If we want it to smile back at us, we must smile at it.

After acceptance comes a fully supported “Yes!”. There are many situations that are difficult to to do this with...acceptance is as far as you can go but the routines of daily living will be easier if you begin to try that fully supported "Yes!" to life when you think of it.  It will very quickly, tell you where you are in relation to the flow of life. and generally, you will feel an immediate easing, or lightening within.
We can love and see the new ways coming and then the new ways as being and then we see them as they unfold in the moment.  We draw them with our heart energy.

We cannot love and resist at the same moment.

So how can we change something if there isn't some sense of dissatisfaction?  Wouldn't we keep everything just as it is?  How would we progress?

We can change things, in love, instead of in negative energy.  Actually our negative energy only entrenches them and makes our work much more difficult.  Acceptance of what is, does not mean that you accept an entire story around it.

There is a difference between.  "The rent is due today.  I only have half of it."  That is what has happened, evolved, unfolded.  And....

"I never have enough.  It is so unfair.  I am angry about this and I feel guilty. Bad things will happen to me.  I feel so scared and don't know what I am going to do.  I hate my life".  This is the story around what happened.  Accept the situation, not the story.

Try this one. "The rent is due today.  I only have half of it.  OK I accept that.  Now I am looking at the unfolding and I will see things shift so that the money I need is coming (or is here depending on your framework) and things will be fine.  Tomorrow will bring me an answer, a way around or through this situation .I will ask for help."  Do what you need to do...but do it without resistance...do it expecting to see the good thing.

The truth is, most of us resist a great deal on a daily basis.  Practicing with the "Yes!" will help us to see just how much we are hindering ourselves in our own quest for peace of mind and great joy. So while driving, stopped at a light, parking your car, sitting down to lunch, arriving home, going through the toll, getting in the shower, dailing your call, losing your call, looking at the moon ...try it....say " Yes!" to life.
You may be surprised......

  2. Someone once told me that hanging on to anger or resentment is like drinking poison and hoping that the source of our anger/resentment dies. Doesn't mean that we should/will never get angry/resenftul but rather that we need to focus on forgiveness (without necessarily forgetting) lest we poison ourselves! Thanks for the great message!
