What we think about, we help to create. Sounds so easy doesn't it? So I will think about being a wealthy, slender fantastically gorgeous woman! Right? We can see right away the pitfalls in that line of thinking but still there is truth in the statement, we help to create that which we think about. The deeper truth deals with the energy, the feeling, and intensity of feeling we emit as we focus on something. The longer we focus on it maintaining the same emotional state, the closer we bring it into our reality. The "something" may be a physical item or an attitude, a desire....a powerful image that "speaks" to us...but for sure, the power is in the emtional (spiritual) realm not the mental realm. The mental realm uses almost exclusively words.
Words are symbols...they are either written or spoken. If spoken they are sounds and the combination of sounds, we have learned, represent something. The word is not the something itself. The word "tree" is not a tree". Sounds very obvious doesn't it? The words prompt us to go beyond what they mean into our own experience of what that means....if we have never felt, smelled or seen a tree then we go nowhere. We must look up the word and hopefully read other words that will make a connection with what we have experienced to be able to grasp what it meant by the word "tree". Even so, having a mental idea of what something means and having experienced it are two VERY different things.
When we say " I love you", we are not necessariy loving anyone. The emotion of love can be expressed in a word and can be communicated while speaking the word, "Love" but may more easily be communicated or expressed when using the person's name or speaking of characteristics that are appreciated. "He doesn't tell me he loves me" certainly doesn't mean he doesn't love you. And the opposite is true, all the "right" words do not mean that any loving is taking place.
So what has all this to do with "what we think about we become or help to create"? Well, it is more like "the energy (emotion) we carry within ourselves is the (emotion) energy that fills us and is made fresh and new in us moment by moment. Christian and Hebraic scripture says that gratitude guards the heart (protects it). This is because as we express appreciation and gratitude we cannot simultaneously be hurt or angry or resentful or have any of the yukky feelings we don't want. And the more we carry love and appreciation, the more we see loving things in our world, the more loving things are drawn to us...and so it goes on....
So..given that we are co creating in our world, it might be wise to actually become clear about what we DO want. This is not nearly as easy as it sounds. Do we want money or the freedom that not having financial worries can bring? To look within ourselves toward what we "want" will change, deepen, develop and we will, in time, surprise even our selves. To learn about our "inner" world and to dig deeper is a major part of growing up, developing spiritually, becoming conscious, being human and why we came to planet earth.
A simple and direct way to begin this might be a vision board...a simple rather large paper, foam core or poster board. It becomes a vision board when we take the time to see what really "speaks" to us on a more than surface level and place a symbol of that on the board. So a picture (not personal photo), image, fabric, color,trinket...something that captures the feeling of what you are trying to create in your life is placed on the board. You spend time looking at it...and letting it jump start your engines so the feelings of those things, situations, experiences can be cultivated within you. Perhaps the question, "What do I want to see in my life in the coming year?," is a very good place to start. Then we intentionally create within ourselves that which we chose to have. They are created in our inner world so that they can be expressed ( manifested) in our outer world. Since we are already co creating, we may as well be wise enough to be a conscious participant.
With or without a vision board training our minds to be appreciative, to be thankful is not only healthy for us but pleasant for everyone who knows or comes into contact with us. We are drawing to ourselves the same kind of emotion we are carrying. (even if we are totally unaware of it)
Dale Carnegie, the Blues writiers, the scared texts, the new age thinkers....truth is universal and no matter what the words are, or who wrote them....the essence they carry is Life. Let's wake up and try to flow with life...it's here now...in this moment...completely....selah.
